“Dr. Borus performed a total robotic right knee replacement for me in October. Three months in, except for a bit of swelling, I am 100%. I have needed this surgery for at least 15 years and reached the point where I could not take the pain any longer or the negative impact it had on my life. It was time to take some action and get this done! A good friend of mine highly recommended Dr. Borus and I made the appointment and went into this procedure 100% committed with a visualization of how I wanted to come through it from start to finish. The pain could not be any worse than I have already put up with.....right?! I am a strong and very determined lady. I could deal with this, right?! Oh jeez.....I was in the ride of my life....and so was my husband! I chose outpatient surgery and came home within hours of surgery on "cloud 9" with a body and knee pumped full of pain meds. I had already been walking the halls at the hospital and felt I was on my way. Two days later I was in the ER unable to control the pain. It felt like someone was hitting it nonstop with a hammer and I wanted to die. I'm not a person taken to tears easily, but this had reduced me to constant tears and begging God for a miracle, or at the very least, pull me up to Heaven ASAP! After a few hours in the ER and several rounds of stronger meds, I came home and thus began the most brutal, painful experience of my life thus far. I had signed up with Steve Whitaker of The Vancouver Clinic for PT since he had pulled me through several injuries with success. He was my guy. For four weeks straight I saw him twice weekly and did everything I was supposed to do on my own. He'd pull me through each session with encouragement and cheers and I'd be crying and swearing like a truck driver the whole time. We were coming up on Thanksgiving and I was not going to see him for a total week and asked for more direction on what specific exercises to do at home that would produce the best results. He kept going to a stool with wheels that would roll back and forth, bending my knee. I didn't want to buy that and told him and he then brought out a large exercise ball that I sat on and did the same rolling back and forth but I could also bounce on this getting a better range than with the rolling stool. From the very second I got on that ball, I knew that was what was going to be my salvation. My husband went to get one immediately after that appointment and I was on that every couple hours for that full week. Even at night, I would get on that ball. I could actually feel that I was breaking through scar tissue....it was amazing! Within a week when I saw Steve again, I was at full range of 120! He could not believe it and said he had never seen anyone make such a drastic recovery so quickly. I was one for the books...indeed! So, here I am. So glad I did this. My balance had improved 100%, and life is so much better with my new knee. Everyone has a different tale to tell. My advice, is to fight like hell to get through it and don't give up. Get a great surgeon and PT person and do everything they tell you and you will get there! Thank you Dr. Borus and your great team members for a job well done! God bless you all!”
