“Over five years ago I had a TKR on my right knee due to avascular necrosis and at the same time had a meniscus repair on my left knee which left the bones close but not touching. Until the summer of 2017, I had not a twinge in that left knee (or the right) and was competitively tap dancing, taking 2-3 classes per week and performing. Then I got a mosquito bite in the back of my left knee and developed a bout of cellulitis with incredible swelling. Long story short, those adjacent bones got compressed together by the swelling, and I left with bone on bone in one corner. I could barely walk, let alone dance, and could not get an appointment until November. However, with the help of the office staff, I scored a cancellation with Dr. Schwartz shortly after that, who was a complete unknown to me. I took an immediate liking to him though. He was candid, sat down and answered my questions thoroughly, and clearly outlined my options. He gave me a cortisone shot which helped my short term, but I knew the long-term solution, unfortunately, was going to be a TKR. I asked to be put on his surgical schedule asap and had the procedure done in January. After 24 hours in the hospital, Dr. Schwartz offered me the option to go home, and I jumped at it. His PA's were always accessible to me through the patient portal, and I found Dr. Schwartz and his staff to be supportive and encouraging to a patient like me who tends to push the limits when it comes to activity and PT. Within six weeks, I was back in tap class, not dancing full out, but able to participate and learn choreography. By mid-May, I was recovered and performed in two different shows, ready to do everything without reservation. I know recovery is a very individual thing and every surgery is different. But I can only say that my operation executed, my interaction with and trust in Dr. Schwartz were reliable, and my outcome couldn't be better. I can thoroughly recommend Dr. Schwartz and his team and can honestly say I have my life back thanks to him.”
